This is the story of Guts, a lone warrior who was born in the Midlands from a hung corpse and raised by his violent adoptive father Gambino as a mercenary. Guts kills his intoxicated father in self-defense, flees his mercenary gang, and becomes a roaming “sellsword”. Griffith, the charismatic commander of a mercenary gang known as the Band of the Hawk, is drawn to his frightening reputation. Griffith coerces Guts into joining the club, where he becomes his finest combatant and confidante.
While Griffith mingles with Midland nobility and gets to know the king’s daughter Charlotte, Guts develops emotions for his fellow commander Casca, the Hawks’ only female member. Griffith appears to be the victim of a series of tragic circumstances, and later, a phenomenon known as The Eclipse occurs in which Griffith sacrifices his entire band in order to be resurrected as an evil entity called Femto in order to hate Guts for forsaking him.
Guts loses his forearm and right eye while attempting to save Casca during Griffiths’ massacre after he has transformed into Femto. Guts is outfitted with a massive new sword, “Dragonslayer,” and a prosthetic left arm with a built-in cannon and crossbow by Godo, a blacksmith who is caring for Casca.
Angry that Griffith’s first act as Femto was to rape Casca, Guts begins hunting down the Apostles in order to find and murder Griffith, while being pursued by a demonic phantom known as the Demon Child, who is actually Guts and Casca’s unborn child after it was deformed by Femto’s rape.
Guts pledges revenge on Griffith while confronting hordes of demons on a daily basis, and no price or risk seems too big for him to take – This is definitely a story you’d love to read!
